The bars are open until 6am, the outside discos start at 2am and if you want a peaceful holiday forget it but if you want to see how the Spanish unite as families and take their children out for meals and embrace the artmosphere, the Port is well worth a visit. There is also an evening street market in July and August where you can pick up a fantastic bargain or two.

The beach stretches for miles and goes from Bolnuevo, through the Port and Isla Plana to the little fishing village of La Azohia. Here you will find a pebbly beach with small fishing boats bobbing about on the waves.

Visit the cultural centre to find out more about the Romans or just eat in one of the many fabulous restaurants in the city. Outside of the city is also a large retail park with many large stores and a casino.

The capital city of the area is Murcia. The city is well worth a visit as the architecture is stunning. The main square has some lovely restaurants but many more can be found by walking through the little side streets. There is a major department store, El Cortes Ingles, and many other shops. There are 2 large retail parks just off the E15 motorway. You will also find the new Real Murcia football stadium here although the cheapest ticket price is €60 as they now play in the same league as Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Another attraction just of the E15 motorway is the Terra Natura Zoo and Waterpark. This was only opened in May of 2007 and is already a big hit with residents and tourists. Obviously the waterpark is only open in the summer months but the Zoo is open all year round. If you carry on through towards Aledo you will come to the Monastery of Santa Eualia which has now been turned into a fantastic hotel and restaurant. On the opposite side to the monastery you will find a road edged by large statues of the stations of the cross which leads to a large statue of Jesus and a wide viewing area which gives sights across the region.

Another place to visit is Lorca which is only 30 minutes drive from Mazarrón on the E15 in the opposite direction - heading towards Almeria. There is a large castle which sits above the town. You can hire all the equipment locally and if you are too exhausted to drive home, there are plenty of ski lodges and hotels to book into.

A 1 hr drive by the new toll motorway will take you from Mazarrón to Mojacar in Almeria. This is a lively tourist resort which is a favourite with the Spanish and the English.
